Super delux modern bicycles, fishy pedicures, and flame wars in El Salvador.
"And Finally..." The best of Reuters Oddly Enough. From our web show studio in New York, I'm Chad Ruble.
This week, we're going over some of the best stories we've missed recently. First, let's take a ride in a time machine back to a time when it was fashionable to ride bikes like this. OK, OK, OK, this isn't actually the 19th century, it's the 21st, at the historical bike ride in Berlin. Gentlemen and ladies donned their trusty monocles and riding gloves for a quick spin on their penny farthings. Slow down, gents! This isn't the Tour de France. The event takes place for three days each year, after which the bikes are returned to what must be some tall and skinny garages. Next, we take you to India, where we ask the age old question what could be more relaxing than having dozens of fish munch on your feet. After creating a sensation in the Far East, fish pedicures are as popular as ever. The idea is simple. Get a tank full of garra rufa fish. Don't feed them much, so they get super hungry. Then dunk in your feed and hands, and let the feeding frenzy begin. The fish have learned to eat whatever food is available, including dead skin cells, leaving clients hands and feet soft and shiny. And the fish well fed. And finally on And Finally, As we reported earlier, the annual tradition of throwing fireballs at one another is still alive and well in El Salvador. The event is held each year in honor of the a huge volcanic eruption which hit the town in 1922. Happy anniversary! Now eat fire! Opponents to the event argue that it might be, um, dangerous. why ever would they think that? Stop drop and roll, dude. Miraculously, despite the apparent dangers, very few serious injuries have been reported. Wow.
