Iconic images of actress Marilyn Monroe fetchd hundreds of thousands of dollars at a New York auction.
Marilyn is an auctioneer's best friend. Despite the economic recession, one of the last pictures taken of Marilyn Monroe before her death sold for more than 146,000 dollars at a New York auction Tuesday night. That was double the price paid in 1994 for that pensive image shot by Bert Stern. The collection auctioned by Christies spanned the Hollywood actress' growth from a fresh-faced young brunette girl into a mature but confused blond film star. The images sold included this iconic shot of her standing over a subway grate to publicize her film, "The Seven Year Itch." Another highlight: Andy Warhol's "One Grey Marilyn." It fetched almost 291,000 dollars. Other famous faces are also up for sale but it's Marilyn who still captivates the crowd. Fred Katayama, Reuters, New York.
