S. Korea protests against N.Korea

Protesters gather in Seoul against North Korea's missile plans.

Protesters gather at this park in Seoul to show their dismay towards North Korea's missile plans.

Chanting slogans against North Korea's leader Kim Jong il they proceeded to burn the country's flag.

These people are from South Korea's conservative groups.

(SOUNDBITE) (Korean) PROTEST LEADER PARK CHAN-SUNG SAYING:

"North Korea has developed nuclear weapons and prepared to launch missiles. Following our ancestors' independence movement spirit, we should destroy North Korea's Military First policy and dictatorship and brinkmanship."

In Chunan, South Korea's president Lee Myung-bak called on his neighbour to halt their plans to develop weapons of mass destruction.

(SOUNDBITE) (Korean) SOUTH KOREA'S PRESIDENT LEE MYUNG-BAK SAYING:

"Denuclearisation is a short-cut for North Korea that allows it to grow into a member of the international community."

He asked the North to restart discussions.

(SOUNDBITE) (Korean) SOUTH KOREA'S PRESIDENT LEE MYUNG-BAK SAYING:

"Of all the countries in the world, South Korea cares most about the lives and happiness of the North Korean people. What protects North Korea are not nuclear weapons and missiles, but cooperation with the South and the international community."

North Korea said it was making preparations to launch a satellite.

But officials in South Korea said there isn't a difference between a satellite launch or a missile, as they both use the same technology and rocket.
