Deadly suicide blast in Sri Lanka

At least ten people have been killed and 35 injured - one of them a government minister - in a suspected suicide bomb attack in Sri Lanka.

The victims of a suicide bomb attack in Sri Lanka arrive at hospital by helicopter.

At least 10 people were killed in the latest blast and dozens more injured.

The government's telecommunications minister and a former chief minister were among those wounded.

They were escorted to hospital by police officers.

The bomb was detonated outside a mosque in the town of Godapitiya.

The country was celebrating a Muslim festival at the time.

The government is currently fighting a war with Tamil Tigers rebels.

The military has corned the separatists in a 45 square kilometre region near the north east coast.

They say they're hoping to defeat them soon.

But the Tamil Tigers don't just use conventional warfare.

They regularly adopt unconventional tactics to strike far from the war zone.

This latest blast is thought to be an example of that and it's feared there may be more similar attacks as the cornered rebels lose ground.
