The makers of the hit movie "Slumdog Millionaire" have donated nearly 750,000 dollars (USD) to a charity devoted to improving the lives of street children in Mumbai. The money will be given to Plan, an international children's charity that has been working in India since 1979. The aim is to help educate 5,000 slum kids over the next five years. "Slumdog Millionaire," a rags-to-riches tale of a Mumbai slum kid who makes it big, won eight Oscars and has grossed more than 300 million dollars (USD) worldwide.
Jamie Foxx has apologized to teen star Miley Cyrus for a radio routine in which he urged the 16-year-old to "make a sex tape and grow up." The incident was brought up on the "Tonight Show" hosted by Jay Leno. Foxx apologized and said: "I didn't mean it maliciously." Foxx noted that he was doing a routine, saying: "Sometimes comedians ... go a little too far."
Actor-director Woody Allen has accused a clothing company of trying to harass and intimidate him with a "scorched earth" approach to defending itself against a 10 million dollar (USD) lawsuit. In papers filed Wednesday (April 15) by his lawyers, the 73-year-old Allen said American Apparel went too far in requesting information about his family life, personal finances and career. Allen sued the company last year for using his image on the company's billboards and on a Web site. A lawyer for American Apparel said the company plans to make Allen's relationships to actress Mia Farrow and her adopted daughter Soon-Yi Previn, whom Allen married, the focus of a trial scheduled to begin in May.
