Buddhist teacher shot in Thailand

A female teacher was killed in a drive-by shooting as she travelled to work in Yala province, Thailand.

NOTE: Natural sound only - no reporter narration.

The shooting took place in Thailand's rebellious Muslim south, where Muslim separatists have stepped up an anti-government insurgency.

The 56-year-old elementary school teacher was killed as she rode to work on her motorcycle.

Shortly afterwards, a bomb hidden in a motorcycle exploded outside a police station in neighbouring Pattani province.

The region's Buddhist minority has borne the brunt of the attacks since a June 8 shooting at a Narathiwat mosque, where unknown gunmen killed 10 Muslims at prayer and wounded 12 more.

No arrests have been made following the incident, which angry Muslim residents blamed on security forces. The military has denied involvement and says separatist militants seeking to cause sectarian rifts are the likely masterminds.
