US gym shooting - three women killed

A man killed three women after walking into a suburban Pittsburgh gym in America and opening fire during a Latin dance class.

Three women were shot dead in suburban Pittsburgh when a man opened fire at their health club and later turned the gun on himself.

The shooting took place shortly after eight in the evening at the L.A. Fitness Centre gym in Collier Township.

The victims were attending a Latin dance class.

Witnesses say the gunman, who was bald and wearing a black bandana, walked into the gym, turned off the lights and opened fire for about 10 seconds before shooting himself in the head.

SOUNDBITE: Eyewitness (English):

"I was standing right by the free weights, right by the aerobics room and I just kept hearing shots. About 30 shots, and I had just seen people running, running all around and I just started ducking down, running for my life. It was one of the scariest things I have ever seen."

There were between 60 and 70 people in the gym at the time.

15 other people were injured.

Police are still trying to piece together the motive and at this point it's still unknown what his connection was to the health club.
