STORY: Britney Spears did it again. Paparazzi had cameras rolling as the pop star's Mercedes-Benz rear ended an SUV in Beverly Hills. No one was injured and police were not called to the scene. Video shows minor damage to Spears' car. She has been involved in several minor accidents in the past few months.
Troubled soul singer Amy Winehouse will not face charges in connection with video footage that showed a woman resembling her taking drugs, according to police. The 24-year-old Grammy winner was arrested after handing herself in at an east London police station last week. She had been questioned by detectives for nine hours in relation to the video.
Madonna has more plans for Malawi. According to her lawyer, she intends to start building a multi-million-dollar girls' school for underprivileged children this year. Her lawyer also said the project would be on the same scale as Oprah Winfrey's school in South Africa.
Madonna is in Malawi this week for the expected approval of the adoption of two-year old David Banda.
Neil Diamond has scored his first career number 1. His album "Home Before Dark" debuted at the top of the Billboard charts. Diamond likely got a boost in sales from his recent appearance on "American Idol". The closest the 67 year old singer had gotten to No. 1 was with the 1973 soundtrack to "Jonathan Livingston Seagull." Madonna's "Hard Candy," which debuted last week at number one, dropped to third.
The best-selling pop album of all time, Michael Jackson's "Thriller," is among the recordings the Library of Congress will preserve for its cultural significance. America's main library chooses twenty-five albums a year to add to the National Recording Registry as part of an attempt to save the country's aural history. Also among the selections is Herbie Hancock's 1973 jazz funk album "Headhunters"
Actor James Garner, best known for starring in the classic television series "Maverick" and "The Rockford Files," underwent surgery this week after suffering a minor stroke. The 80 year old actor was admitted to a Los Angeles hospital on Friday. According to his spokeswoman, Garner has a positive prognosis and will be discharged from the hospital soon.
