STORY: With temperatures plunging well below freezing for weeks, dozens of winter swimmers in Harbin,China, had no qualms about making a splash.

Harbin, the capital of Heilongjiang province on the edge of Siberia, is one of China's coldest areas where winter temperatures can drop to minus 35 degree Celsius (- 31.00 F).

Almost every day, a group of swimmers, many of them senior citizens, gather to take a brisk swim in the icy waters of the Songhua River and are cheered by tourists from all over the country who have come for the annual ice festival.

Every year the city plays host to a world-renowned ice festival, which traditionally runs from mid-December to early February.
